|
The Mathematics Institute (Instituto de Matemáticas) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Morelia is inviting applications for a PostDoc fellowship to start on 1 September 2011. (The date is possibly flexible.) The fellowship is for an initial duration of one year, and extensible for a second year.
To be eligible a candidate must be younger than 36 years at the moment of taking up the fellowship and have received his/her PhD degree before 1 June 2011, but not before 1 September 2008. Also, it is a requirement that the candidate is author of at least one research paper that has been accepted for publication in a refereed international journal.
The institute (www.matmor.unam.mx) has 21 faculty members working in various areas (www.matmor.unam.mx/research) of Pure Mathematics (Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, Combinatorics, Group Theory, Number Theory, Set Theory, Topology, Representation Theory) and Mathematical Physics (Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Quantum Gravity, Quantum Field Theory). Being part of UNAM, we have access to reasonable computer and library facilities. We also share a building with UNAM's Center for Astrophysics and Radioastronomy. Nearby is the Institute for Physics and Mathematics of the local State University (www.ifm.umich.mx), with another 20 faculty members. Morelia is a moderate sized city with fair climate and a rich cultural life.
The application procedure is as follows. We invite interested people to contact one faculty member of the institute with whom they may want to collaborate or who is close to their area of work (see www.matmor.unam.mx/faculty/researchers). Serious candidates are then expected to submit a CV and two letters of recommendation (preferably by email) before 1 May 2011 to their contact. Among the candidates we will pre-select by 15 May 2011 two candidates that we think could have the best chances in succeeding in the following process. This internal process consists in a joint application by the candidate and us for the fellowship. The decision whether the candidate is accepted or not is then made by a university body. This decision is published by 1 July 2011.
