Travel and Visa Information

How to arrive

From abroad you can reach Morelia flying directly to Morelia's airport or you can alternatively fly to Mexico City and then take a bus to Morelia. The travel time from Mexico City's airport to Morelia is approximately 5 hours.

From Europe it is usually easier to fly into Mexico City.

From the US there are connecting flights to Morelia departing from Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose California. Flying directly to Morelia could be your best option. Then you will have to take a taxi to your hotel in Morelia's downtown, which costs approximately 270 pesos.

In order to assist you we will need to know your complete travel schedule. We will request it from you later on.

For your convenience we will arrange for comfortable bus transportation: Mexico City airport to (your hotel in) Morelia and back on the dates June 24th for arrival and July 1st for departure. We will have 1 or 2 rides depending on demand; which means that there will be some waiting time (in an ample restaurant). The bus service will have a cost of approximately 40 € / 52 US$ round trip. Other details of the bus service will be arranged and communicated to you once we know the complete travel schedule of most of the participants. Then we will ask you to confirm if you want to book our bus service. UPDATE: The planned bus service had to be canceled due to insufficient demand.

If you choose to go from Mexico City airport to Morelia or back by yourself here are some instructions for a Taxi--Bus trip.

(i)                  Take a taxi to the bus terminal "Terminal Observatorio" (sometimes called "Mexico Poniente"). For security reasons use an Airport Taxi. Find a taxi ticket window and tell the ticket agent where you are going. He will sell you a ticket, which you take to the tourist taxi stand outside. The ticket is for one taxi (there are also Van style taxis that can take several people), so sharing with other loopists is a good idea.

(ii)                Once in the bus terminal. There are many bus lines going to Morelia. We strongly recommend ETN because it is safer and more comfortable.    Their one-way trip to Morelia costs about 290 Pesos. The also take mayor credit cards (MC, Visa, Amex). Here is their timetable [MEX-MOR] 1:00, 6:30, 7:00, 7:00 + 30min, ..., 20:30, 21:15, 22:45, 23:59. Once in Morelia hire a taxi at the taxi ticket window inside the terminal building telling them the name of your hotel. This taxi will cost about 30 Pesos, and is good for as many people as they fit into de cab (which are small sedans). The taxis are lined up outside of the bus terminal.

If you arrive to Morelia´s airport, go to the taxi-counter to buy a ticket for the Hotel. Just as in other cases, the ticket is for the taxi and can be shared by several people.

On the way back take a taxi from your hotel to Morelia's Bus Terminal (again about 30 Pesos), then a bus to Mexico "Observatorio" (290 Pesos) and a taxi to Mexico City's airport. ETN's time table is [MOR-MEX] 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30, 5:15, 6:00, 7:00, 8:45, 9:15, 9:15 + 30min, ..., 20:45, 24:00. There is a taxi ticket window near the ETN section of the "Observatorio" bus terminal; as you come out of the ETN area turn right and you will find the taxi ticket window within a few steps.

See our Morelia page for more information on the city.
